It's un-Australian to leave citizens stranded in India

There are almost 10,000 Australian citizens and permanent residents stranded in India, where a second wave of COVID has overwhelmed the country’s healthcare system and the devastating death toll continues to grow.

Instead of establishing safe, national quarantine so Australians can get to safety in a crisis, the Morrison Government has made the unprecedented decision to ban its own citizens from returning from India with threats of massive fines and jail time.

We therefore ask the House to:

  1. Cancel the ban on and penalties for Australians returning from India.
  2. Ensure travel restrictions are based on health advice and time-limited.
  3. Establish safe, national quarantine to ensure the safety of Australians at home and overseas.
  4. Take immediate action to help stranded Australians in India and around the world to return to safety.
